UK Friends of Standing Together

Write to your MP

In addition to UK Friends of Standing Together's efforts to support the work of Standing Together in Israel, we also want our own government to do more to promote peace and equality in Israel-Palestine.

The letter below is part of our "Support Peace, Sanction Settlements" campaign, which aims to increase support amongst UK politicians for targeted sanctions on West Bank settlements and settler organisations. Further materials from the campaign will be available soon.

If you know your MP is already sympathetic to Standing Together, you can also adapt our letter inviting elected representatives to join Parliamentary Friends of Standing Together, which can be found here. If your MP is already a Parliamentary Friend of Standing Together, please delete the last paragraph of the model letter below.

You can find contact details for your MP here.

[Please adapt the letter/initial paragraph based on previous contact with your MP.]

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent who is a supporter of UK Friends of Standing Together (UKFoST). We build practical support for the work of Standing Together, a grassroots, binational social movement mobilising Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel to co-resist war, occupation, and racism, in pursuit of peace and equality.

I urge you to use your platform to amplify and support the vital work of Standing Together to bring about change in Israel from within. Sanctions on settlements will increase external pressure on Israel, which can help Standing Together and other peace activists break the pro-occupation consensus in mainstream Israeli politics.

UKFoST welcomed the recommendations of the Foreign Affairs Committee’s report The Israel-Palestine Conflict published July 2025, which called on the government to act “urgently” and “more boldly and bravely.” Recognition of the State of Palestine, one of the recommendations, was an important step. But it will be of only limited and symbolic value unless the UK government does more to protect the territory of that state and, most importantly, the lives of its people.

Terror attacks by armed settlers in the West Bank are frequent. These are not simply the actions of rogue extremists, but support government policy. Israeli ministers describe their policy as aiming to “bury”, “kill”, or “erase” prospects for a Palestinian state. The Israeli cabinet has approved measures in the West Bank that strip power away from the Palestinian Authority. This is de facto annexation.

I ask you, as my MP, to call on the foreign secretary to fully implement the recommendations of the Foreign Affairs Committee report, including:

I also encourage you to join Parliamentary Friends of Standing Together. Members publicly support Standing Together’s aims of peace, equality, justice and self-determination from both peoples, and are listed on UKFoST’s website. Standing Together and UKFoST will brief you on events from the ground, and parliamentary friends can help with media and political contacts. You can contact them at parliament@ukfost.co.uk.

Yours,
