"This is the first step to break the status quo"

A message to supporters from Standing Together:

[On Friday 20 March], we mobilised hundreds of people in Tel Aviv’s Habima Square to call for an end to our government’s Forever War. Hundreds of Jews and Palestinians gathered to say no to this reality of war after war – in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, and deepening occupation in the West Bank. Our government wants us to be quiet while it plays with our lives and the lives of millions of people in the region, but the protest proved that we know we deserve better, and that we’re prepared to act.

Especially in times of war our government and even the mainstream media suppresses opposing voices. Our protest is an important first step in breaking the status quo as we grow the call to end the war. And we're gearing up for a major protest over the weekend together with a coalition of organisations; we're putting up anti-war posters around the country; and we're launching a social media campaign to oppose this bloody reality.

This is the second war with Iran, the fourth with Lebanon, and the eighth with Gaza on top of the daily killing and destruction in the West Bank. We know that endless war cannot bring us safety; instead it brings us right back to where we started only with more death. We, Jews and Palestinians, are being asked by our extremist government to pay an impossible price. Again and again.

This week, as Iranian missiles fell on civilians in the cities of Arad and Dimona in southern Israel and just a few hours later in Tel Aviv, injuring over 100 people, [we] felt at the same time deep pain for all of us on this land and more determination than ever to continue building our grassroots movement into a bigger and bigger force for political change. This is our mission. Yes, even and especially now, it’s our responsibility to confront this reality with courage and strategy.
