Standing Together holds its 10th annual national convention

1,500 people gathered in Haifa on 27-28 November for the 10th annual national convention of the movement.

Standing Together writes:

Over 1,500 people, Jews and Palestinians, came together on Thursday and Friday for Standing Together's national convention marking 10 years of our movement. We reflected on all of our hard work and began to chart the path forward in our struggle on this land. Our movement is continuing to grow despite challenges from the far right, and the convention was proof of it. Those who attended didn’t come for a protest action or a lecture on a specific topic; they were there to take part in our movement and build the grassroots power necessary to achieve a future of peace, equality, and justice.

On Thursday we heard moving speeches by Jumana Khalaileh, Sondos Anbtawi, Itamar Avneri, Sally Abed, and Rula Daood and Alon-Lee Green, among others, and beautiful musical performances by Nour Darwish, Rona Kenan, Sameh Zakout, and Sun Tailor.

And on Friday we voted on our movement’s vision. This vision lays out the future we want in clear terms. Because if we want to change our reality, we have to imagine it first. As movement leader Sally Abed said in her speech, political imagination is a political tool. It’s "what allows us to lift our heads above the water for a moment and ask: Where do we want to go? What should our lives actually look like on this land?” Our political vision will be translated into English and published soon.

We also voted for our national leadership, the body that helps guide our movement toward its goals. Standing Together’s newly elected leadership is made up of 27 people – 60 percent women and over 40 percent Palestinian citizens of Israel. Our leadership is also comprised of many individuals who are part of the LGBTQ community.
