Resisting dispossession and displacement in Silwan
Standing Together is mobilising to support Palestinian communities under occupation, facing eviction from their homes.
Standing Together writes:
As evictions and demolition orders advance in Silwan, our student chapters are refusing to stay silent. Last week, our Hebrew University and Bezalel student chapters of Standing Together went on a solidarity visit to the neighborhood. Jewish and Palestinian students went together to meet families who are currently facing forced displacement in Silwan and the Al-Bustan neighborhood of East Jerusalem.
During the visit, we met families who have already experienced home demolitions and families who are now living under active threat. They shared what the le gal process looks like, how demolitions have affected their stability, and what it means to try to plan a future while facing possible displacement. The purpose of the visit was to express solidarity, to listen, and to build ongoing partnership.
Palestinian families should not have to raise their children with demolition orders hanging over their heads. They deserve safety, stability, and the guaranteed right to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they have built their lives in for generations.
