A report on Standing Together's latest activity

Uri Weltmann, Standing Together's national field organiser, writes to supporters with an update on the movement's latest activity.

In the last few days, news about the growing starvation in Gaza has reached alarming levels, with dozens of Palestinians dying on a daily basis as result of hunger. Our government is denying the reality of the widespread famine, even when humanitarian agencies and experts are warning in the harshest words possible about the deadly effects of the severe malnutrition, which is the result of the tightening of the siege since March, when Netanyahu's government broke off the cease-fire agreement.

Responding to this, we in Standing Together called for an emergency rally on Tuesday in Tel-Aviv, which we called The Flour March. We carried large photos of starving Gazan children, as well as sacks of flour, and called on people to bring small bags of flour from home.

It received coverage in the media, including internationally and in the Arab world.

As the mainstream media in Israel becoming more and more complicit in hiding the reality in Gaza from the general public in Israel, echoing government talking points, and questioning the validity of the reports about hunger (if even bothering to report them!), we launched a pressure campaign against journalists and media outlets that align with the government's agenda: we swamped their phones with text messages demanding they cover the reality in Gaza, and held vigils outside TV studios.

I was interviewed about this in Haaretz.

Throughout the week, in both Jewish as well as Arab cities, we participated in protests against the war, bringing there our message, in Hebrew and Arabic, that emphasizes the starvations in Gaza and calling on people to refuse to serve the war.

Recently, Nadav Shofet, a member of the leadership of Standing Together, was interviewed for SBS radio in Australia.
